Biography

Sheila Froelich Gritte was born and raised primarily in West Texas, relocating to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1990. The first indication that she would one day become an artist was that she dropped out of Kindergarden over artistic differences with the teacher regarding the color to use for grapes. She would later continue her arts education by completing an Associates in Art Education from Del Mar College in 2005,  a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Texas A & M University - Corpus Christi in 2007, and a Master of Arts from Texas A & M University - Corpus Christi in 2010.
She is primarily a printmaker with most of her artwork based on photographs that she has taken, some from her own garden. Her favorite printmaking medium is serigraphy (aka silk screen printing) with imagery based on nature and botanical subjects. In viewing her artwork, it is quite evident that color is still a highly important element to her.
